John has written five documentaries. The first, Shirley Baker: Life Through a Lens, premiered in May 2023 at the Manchester Art Gallery to great acclaim and has since been shown at several film festivals. Jack the Ripper: The City of Dreadful Night (co-written by Mike Hawley) is currently in production. John's study of the poltergeist phenomenon is due to be made in 2026. Bram Stoker: The Father of Dracula, a biography of Bram Stoker and the origins of Dracula, is also due to be made in 2026. In late 2025, John both wrote and appeared in The Ghost Chronicles, a new documentary exploring the haunted history of York. All are directed by Jason Figgis.
